Movie analysis: Day Shift (vampire movie)

"Day Shift" is a new vampire hunting movie starring Jamie Foxx and Dave Franco. The movie is about a blue collar working dad who wants to provide for his child's happiness. But, his mundane job at the pool in San Fernando Valley serves as a front for hunting and killing Vampires as part of an international Union of vampiric hunters.

The premise sounds fun, but can director J.J. Perry deliver?

The movie's opening scene features a bizarre action sequence in which Jamie Foxx shoots at an elderly lady who turns out be a vampire. It then turns into a crazy fight between them, which is so much fun. I think the movie is having a lot fun with the rag-doll action scenes. It makes those sequences pop in an action movie that's not as popular as some of the other Netflix action movies or blockbusters.

Day Shift is another non-serious, fun film that I felt I could truly enjoy the entire time. I didn't have to think to much, it had great action that was original and I felt like I was enjoying watching it. It was funny and made me laugh a lot. Of course it also took reference from som brilliant vampire films such as Blade and the Lost Boys which also happen to be some of my favorite films. The acting was strong, the direction was superb and the cinematography excellent. Day Shift is an enjoyable movie that's not too serious and easy to watch. It's a lot fun.

Day Shift was a very mixed movie. While there's a lot fun (link to info) action and some interesting characters (the brothers, Seth) there's also a terrible villain and a lot more mediocre characters. It appeared that there were some scenes that were not shown. Bud's neighbor behaves like she's a friend, even though she only had 3 minutes of screentime before the final scene. It seems that this helps the stronger characters shine more. Overall, the movie is enjoyable, but it could have been even better.

Snoop dogg makes the entire movie worth watching. Snoop Dogg is the best! He is the epitome of cool.
